Nortel to Jump on the iPhone-Lawsuit Bandwagon

Earlier this week Cisco handed a lawsuit against Apple and claimed rights to the disputed name, iPhone. Many analysts and legal-experts are claiming that Cisco’s chances of winning and walking away with the name in their pocket are not miniature as previous lawsuits handed against Apple.

Cisco’s own iPhone is an affordable, simple VoIP device that hit the market last spring, unlike Apple’s baby, which got a lot of people excited when it was presented Tuesday.

By now hardcore (Apple) iPhone fans already know about Cisco’s lawsuit, but according to the Inquirer, Nortel may be jumping on the bandwagon as well, this time, claiming rights for visual voice-mail facility introduced by Job’s the other day.

Nortel’s product – which incidentally is resold by Citrix – provides a visual display of the voicemails a company employee might receive. Those voicemails can then be played back using an IP Phone supplied by Nortel.

So in principal, it works exactly the same as the Visual Voicemail facility built into Apple’s new iPod phone.

Microwavable slippers | Slippies Microwavable Foot Warmers

For just £15 UK Pounds you can say good bye to the slams of ice you call feet on a cold winter’s day. Slippies Microwavable Foot Warmers contain a special blend of treated flax seed and relaxing herbs and can be heated so that they in turn can heat your feet.

To use these slippers, simply “cook” them in the microwave for a maximum of 90 seconds (based on a 900 watt oven) and then place them on your feet and relax.

The Foot Warmers can also be frozen to treat sprains, bruising and swelling and they can be re used. Unfortunately they do not have a non-slip sole and therefore must not be walked in.

Microsoft and Ford have unveiled a system to enable voice-activated music and telephone calls for car drivers.

Microsoft and Ford have announced that a new voice activated system will be available in 12 Ford vehicles this year. The system known as the “Sync” platform will allow drivers to activate music and telephone calls by simply saying contacts’ names or song requests in English or Spanish.

With Sync, drivers will not have to take their hands off the wheel or their eyes off the road to access some of the car’s most used features.

The partnership should prove beneficial for both companies. Microsoft, the world’s largest software maker, is continuing to look for fresh markets beyond the home and office computer ones which it dominates. Ford, meanwhile, hopes that new technology will help it solve the problem of dwindling market share.

The technology was unveiled at the Detroit auto show where this year it has been trying to raise the profile of the troubled American car market. However, Sync develops technology Microsoft already provides to car manufacturer Fiat under a similar deal outside of the US.
