After Apple disclosed the changes in the new iPod Nano, it was time for the editors of Digital Trends to test how it works in the field, the verdict seems unequivocal:

The original iPod nano was a stunning success for Apple, selling over 1 million units in the first 17 days after its release in 2005, and it is estimated that Apple has sold well over 30 million iPod nanos since the beginning of 2006. The new iPod nano, with its many important improvements, will likely dwarf the sales statistics and user enthusiasm for the original nano.

Microsoft Officialy Announces “Zune”

Microsoft Officialy Announces Just days after Apple revealed upcoming updates to their players, Microsoft decides to officialy announce their iPod killer wannabe - Zune.

Zune will feature 30GB of storage, 3-inch color screen, Wi-Fi, and a built-in FM tuner. Zune will be unleashed to the shelves either on October or November, just in time for you to save up until it’s Chritmas, coming in white, black or brown.

As you will see in the following videos, there are a lot of promising things about the Zune, the Wi-Fi seems to work flawlessly, and the interface looks quite yummy. But some people claim that the unique music-sharing between Zunes is what’s going to challenge Apple the most:

Maybe one day people will realize we have enough car accidents for us to count on computers to navigate our way to work, or maybe it’s time to let the robots lead us?

According to the newspaper, the specially equipped HQ3, which monitors the road via two onboard cameras and receives its instructions from a computer, “has a strong ability to recognize the environment around it and tackle turnoffs [and] street crossings, as well as broken lines instantly. It’s also able to adapt to changes of driving attitude and natural lighting, as well as shadows of trees and bridges.”

Wii Price & Release Date Confirmed

USA Today finally confirmed the release date and price of Nintendo’s gaming console. Wii will be released on Nov. 19 and with a price tag of $250.

Initially, about 30 games (usually $5 to $10) will be available, including The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario 64. Games are saved on SD memory cards, which can also be used to import digital pictures.

Apple’s Overhauls

New iPod Nano
As expected, Apple did update the iPod Nano this year, with the most two noticeable features: a thinnner aluminum enclosure & larger capacities (2-8GB) with a wider price range of $149 to $249. [Link]

New iPod ShuffleAnother product that was touched by Jobs’ magic brain was the iPod shuffle, which now has quite a different look with a new dock placement and built-in clip to attach the player to jeans, belts, or a bag. In addition, the Shuffle will now be available in 1GB editions (twice the capacity of the 1st edition) for $79. [Link]

The Shuffle is expected to hit the shelves in October, while the new better-looking Nano’s can already be ordered.
