Most Expensive Computer In The World
You may think the $10K XPS 600 Renegade PC you are dreaming of just bought is expensive, but for the Japanese government it’s nothing comparing to the $400,000,000 supercomputer they have.
It was manufactured by NEC after the project was authorized Japan’s NASDA & PNC, the works on this supercomputer started 1997 and were completed 2002. This 640 processor node supercomputer was benchmarked with Linpack with a result of 35.86 TFlop/s. The total memory of this one is 10 TB (TeraBytes) and each processor contains 8 vector processors running at 500MHz with 16GB of shared memory.
The $400M supercomputer is mainly used for international projects which are related to atmospheric, climate, and oceanographic simulation.
