8 meg? BAH! Give us 16!

This is the news that UK based Broadband provider Bulldog from Cable and Wireless has just released 16meg broadband, covering a third of UK homes.

However, are they running before they can power-walk? With reports of the 8meg service coughing and spluttering, sometimes coming to a complete halt, should they really be going faster before their hypothetical engine works as it should? This blogger disagrees.

To me, they seem to be wanting to be the first major service to offer this amount. But with other services already offereing 24meg, aren’t they a bit slow on the uptake?

Bulldog 16meg costs ?£15/m and ?£25/m for the Anytime Plus and Unlimited Plus services respectfully.

Black Holes to Turn Green?

Can the Black Holes1 save us some green dollars?? The answer is yes. According to NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, Black Holes are the most fuel efficient object in the Universe.

The coauthor, Christopher Reynolds states: If a car was as fuel-efficient as these black holes, it could theoretically travel over a billion miles on a gallon of gas. Head author Steve Allen quoted:

“Just as with cars, it’s critical to know the fuel efficiency of black holes. Without this information, we cannot figure out what is going on under the hood, so to speak, or what the engine can do.”

But according to Allen, despite the efficiency, the Black Holes take a long time to refuel.

1- A black hole is an object in the Universe that has such a strong pull of gravity, even light is unable to escape it. (More @ Wikipedia)
