Nintendo Revolution Specs Leaked

Nintendo RevolutionLast night gaming site IGN posted the leaked info and then quickly removed it for some reason, but not quickly enough as some sites have already catched the news:

IGN’s sources revealed that the Revolution will operate on an extension of the Flipper and Gekko architectures that powered the GameCube. The “Broadway” CPU (as supplied by IBM) has been clocked at 729MHz; in comparison, the Xbox 360’s CPU runs at 3.2 GHz, whilst even the original Xbox had a CPU that clocked in at 733 MHz.

The “Hollywood” GPU in the Revolution (a component developed and provided by ATI) runs at 243 MHz - the GameCube’s GPU ran at 162 MHz. “The ‘Hollywood’”, said one developer to IGN, “is a large-scale integrated chip that includes the GPU, DSP, I/O bridge and 3MBs of texture memory.” The Revolution will also boast 88MBs of system RAM. In direct comparison, the PS3 and the Xbox 3 boast 512 MBs of RAM.

If the text above seems gibberish to you (i know how it feels), it basically means that Revolution will lack in terms of hardware in front of the PS3 and XBox360, but we already mentioned Nintendo isn’t counting on the hardware, right?

Projector Keyboard

Projector KeyboardThis has been around tech sites for some time, but it’s worth mentioning - The Projector Keyboard ($207) is the keyboard for you if you’re one of the science fiction fans.

The look is amazing, the concept is simple: it uses infrared to project a strong clear keyboard to any flat surface, it can sense your fingers typing and transform the keystrokes to any device capable of grasping Bluetooth. (PDA, Pocket PC or smart phone, PC)

The projector itself is about half the size of your regular keyboard, add to that the fact it’s wireless, and looks exceptionally impressing in the dark. Worth it.

How To Upgrade Your PC in 2006

PC UpgradeI got mine formatted and it seems enough for me, but surely those of you who need to get their antique upgraded should read this article.

This year, we’ll see shifts in a number of component landscapes. On the AMD processor front, we’ll see chipset changes as AMD changes its socket format to take advantage of DDR2 memory. The memory roadmap is also evolving, partly because Intel is driving new memory speeds and formats. Meanwhile, Windows Vista will ship this fall, and a new version of Direct3D will initiate a whole new series of GPU wars.

Microsoft Confirmed Their Own “iPod”

MicrosoftOnly a day after we released the “Microsoft I-pod” video, Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer says they are going to enter the market, and try to combine their player with a phone:

â??In five years are people really going to carry two devices? One device that is their communication device, one device that is music? Thereâ??s going to be a lot of opportunities to get back in that game. We want to be in that game. Expect to see announcements from us in that area in the next 12 months.â?

Note that the iPod seen in the video is probably not the final product, maybe it’s just a spoof, but the fact Microsoft did confirmed the rumor soon after the video was released indicates that the intentions are there.

If Only the iPod Was Microsoft’s…

There’s something telling me this video is fake, but there is a notion in the air that Microsoft is going to take a go at Apple’s monster, is it the I-pod?

Howdy!
