When it comes to initiating..

Image hosted by Photobucket.comElement 3: Forum admins say their forum are alot of fun to spend time in, they make sure they advertise it on every forum they know, but why is it so hard for them to act when it comes to initiating and getting out of their comfortable bubble?

Forum advertising & marketing has became an agenda for some admins, while others try to submit to topsites list, and the laid back side only in certain forums (with alot of members of course). Now what happens when the admin has to do something to get his members?

A.Hs’ mouth wide open, once again…

You’ve opened up a forum, and you think it’s good..it might be good, it might be excellent, so you go advertise it, and you got yourself 25 members in your first 2 weeks, then after a month…you’ve got yourself 43 members, which is very good. But when you come to sum up your seconds’ month success, you see that only 2 members joined.

Reasons may vary, but one of them might be this: dozens of forums are out there, with their admins looking at you, trying to imitate your steps, and when they finish imitating, they’ve got a forum just like yours..and you’re no longer unique, now one of looking at it is: “They copied me”, the other and the better is “forums are advancing and catching up with me, and to stay unique, i have to take an act“…

Now by act i don’t mean going and bumping all of your forum thread in other places desperately that someone will join, but going out there and doing something new, something that requires permanent work and persistency, cause that’s how you build a successful forum :!:

Look at this little list:

    A.H forum consultation
Tech Twister forums, offering special affiliation plans for forums
    Forum Reviews

Look at the list, what defines those features on this site? all of them can benefit you and your forum to extent, but all of them requires you to give something aswell, in return for these services. and that’s why nobody has decided to use them.

Now, look at my forum-related posts…top reads, maybe because you read and you think it does a magic to your forum the moment you read it? maybe because they only thing you have to do with it is reading, which is a completley passive action (or isn’t it? :P ).

I’m not calling you to use those services, nor i’m telling you not to read my posts (hell no! :P ) but i’m just saying…advertising is cheap and easy, but it doesn’t pay off, simply because you paid nothing for it, working and initiating is hard and required persistency, and that’s the way it should be. leave the “other places” board, and start building some quality: content is king!
